De Universitaire Stichting kan subsidies verlenen om het publiceren te bevorderen van wetenschappelijke artikelen in internationaal gereviewde tijdschriften. De subsidie kan enkel toegekend worden aan werken die aantoonbaar voortkomen uit onderzoek in een Belgische onderzoekseenheid. 

OPGELET:   De aanvragen voor het subsidiëren van de kosten voor het publiceren van wetenschappelijke artikelen dienen te worden ingediend door middel van een "online" systeem. Dit systeem zal zowel voor de aanvragers als voor de administratie van de Universitaire Stichting het werk vergemakkelijken.

Abstract
Background: Despite decades of research on the optimization of the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD), its biomarkerbased diagnosis is being hampered by the lack of comparability of raw biomarker data. In order to overcome this limitation, the Erlangen Score (ES), among other approaches, was set up as a diagnostic-relevant interpretation algorithm.
Objective: To validate the ES algorithm in a cohort of neuropathologically confirmed cases with AD (n = 106) and non-AD dementia (n = 57).

In many low-and middle-income countries women with infertility are often in polygynous marriages (i.e. marriages wherein men have multiple wives). In general, the practice of polygyny is understood to be harmful for women as it would have a negative impact on their health and general well-being. The purpose of this qualitative study is to explore how women with infertility experience polygyny and to understand their decision-making regarding these marriages. In-depth interviews were conducted between October 2017 and May 2018 in urban Gambia.

TRPM5 functions as a calcium-activated monovalent cation-selective ion channel and is expressed in a variety of cell types. Dysfunction of this type of channel has been recently implied in cardiac arrhythmias, diabetes, and other pathologies. Therefore, a growing interest has emerged to develop the pharmacology of these ion channels. We optimized a screening assay based on the thallium flux through the TRPM5 channel and a fluorescent thallium dye as a probe for channel activity.

Progression of multiple myeloma (MM) is largely dependent on the bone marrow (BM) microenvironment wherein communication through different factors including extracellular vesicles takes place. This cross-talk not only leads to drug resistance but also to the development of osteolysis. Targeting vesicle secretion could therefore simultaneously ameliorate drug response and bone disease. In this paper, we examined the effects of MM exosomes on different aspects of osteolysis using the 5TGM1 murine model.
