Bonnechère, B. et al. (2020) Age-Associated Capacity to Progress When Playing Cognitive Mobile Games: Ecological Retrospective Observational Study. JMIR Serious Games, 8:2. DOI: 10.2196/17121
Background: The decline of cognitive function is an important issue related to aging. Over the last few years, numerous mobile apps have been developed to challenge the brain with cognitive exercises; however, little is currently known about how age influences capacity for performance improvement when playing cognitive mobile games.
Van der Biest, K. et al. (2020) Aligning biodiversity conservation and ecosystem services in spatial planning: Focus on ecosystem processes. Science of the Total Environment, 712, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.scitotenv.2019.136350
Although the consideration of socio-economic demands with biodiversity conservation is now high on the environmental policy agenda, it is not yet standard practice in spatial planning. This is argued to be related, among others, to a lack of awareness among stakeholders and practitioners of the underpinning role of ecosystem functioning and biodiversity to support human well-being. Meanwhile, there is mounting critique on the absolute focus of biodiversity conservation on static properties such as species and habitats.
Speeckaert, N, El Jaziri, M, Behr, M. , Baucher, M. et al. (2020) Characterization of the UDP-glycosyltransferase UGT72 Family in Poplar and Identification of Genes Involved in the Glycosylation of Monolignols. International Journal of Molecular Sciences, 21 (14)
Monolignols are the building blocks for lignin polymerization in the apoplastic domain. Monolignol biosynthesis, transport, storage, glycosylation, and deglycosylation are the main biological processes partaking in their homeostasis. In Arabidopsis thaliana, members of the uridine diphosphate-dependent glucosyltransferases UGT72E and UGT72B subfamilies have been demonstrated to glycosylate monolignols.
Ghyselen, A.S. (2020) Clearing the Transcription Hurdle in Dialect Corpus Building: The Corpus of Southern Dutch Dialects as Case Study. Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence. 3:10. doi: 10.3389/frai.2020.00010.
This paper discusses how the transcription hurdle in dialect corpus building can be cleared. While corpus analysis has strongly gained in popularity in linguistic research, dialect corpora are still relatively scarce. This scarcity can be attributed to several factors, one of which is the challenging nature of transcribing dialects, given a lack of both orthographic norms for many dialects and speech technological tools trained on dialect data.

Beckers, J.(2020) De Besloten Utopie Clausuur van Bonfatius VIII tot het Concilie van Trente Article, vol. 25, nov. 2020
Muñoz-Moldes, S., Cleeremans, A. (2020) Delineating implicit and explicit processes in neurofeedback learning Neuroscience and biobehavioral reviews, 118, 681-688 https://doi.org/10.1016/j.neubiorev.2020.09.003
Abstract : Neurofeedback allows humans to self-regulate neural activity in specific brain regions and is considered a promising tool for psychiatric interventions. Recently, methods have been developed to use neurofeedback implicitly, prompting a theoretical debate on the role of awareness in neurofeedback learning. We offer a critical review of the role of awareness in neurofeedback learning, with a special focus on recently developed neuro-feedback paradigms.
El Akiki, Carole and Content, Alain (2020) Early Sensitivity to Morphology in Beginning Readers of Arabic. Frontiers in Psychology, 11: 552315.
The current study investigated the influence of morphological structure on the earliest stages of Arabic reading acquisition. More specifically, we aimed at examining the role of root and pattern units in beginners from Grade 1 to 3. A first set of reading tasks evaluated the presence of a morphology facilitation effect in word and pseudoword reading by manipulating independently the frequency of roots and patterns. Additional tasks aimed at examining the contribution of morphological awareness to reading performance.
Vrebos, D. et al. (2020) Facilitating spatially-explicit assessments of ecosystem service delivery to support land use planning. One Ecosystem. doi: 10.3897/oneeco.5.e50540.
Since the early 2000s, there have been substantial efforts to transform the concept of ecosystem services into practice. Spatial assessment tools are being developed to evaluate the impact of spatial planning on a wide range of ecosystem services. However, the actual implementation in decision-making remains limited. To improve implementation, tools that are tailored to local conditions can provide accurate, meaningful information.
Papadopoulou M. et al. (2020) Fetal public Vγ9Vδ2 T cells expand and gain potentcytotoxic functions early after birth. Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS)
Vγ9Vδ2 T cells are a major human bloodγδT cell population thatrespond in a T cell receptor (TCR)-dependent manner to phos-phoantigens which are generated by a variety of microorganisms. It is not clear how Vγ9Vδ2 T cells react toward the sudden micro-bial exposure early after birth. We found that human Vγ9Vδ2T cells with a public/shared fetal-derived TCR repertoire expandedwithin 10 wk postpartum.
Pelgrims, C. (2020) Fetishising the Brussels roadscape. Journal of Transport History (SAGE), Vol. 41(1) 89–115 https://doi.org/10.1177/0022526619892832
Abstract: This explorative paper is an attempt to improve understanding of the material infrastructure and subjective affective investments into it. Building on the concept of “fetish”, it proposes a theoretical framework to analyse the entanglement of the functional, sensitive and social symbolic dimensions of Brussels’ “modern roads” to reinforce and stabilise a social imaginary of fast mobility.
Lehue, M. & Detrain C. (2020) Foraging through multiple nest holes: An impediment to collective decision-making in ants, Plos One, 15(7): e0234526
In social insects, collective choices between food sources are based on self-organized mechanisms where information about resources are locally processed by the foragers. Such a collective decision emerges from the competition between pheromone trails leading to different resources but also between the recruiting stimuli emitted by successful foragers at nest entrances.

Objectives To introduce a minimally invasive and simple ortho‐pros approach for localized tooth wear treatment.
Held, K., Aloi, V. D., Nogueira Freitas, A. C. et al. (2020) Pharmacological properties of TRPM3 isoforms are determined by the length of the pore loop. British Journal of Pharmacology, Aug 11. doi: 10.1111/bph.15223
Background and Purpose
Transient receptor potential melastatin 3 (TRPM3) is a non‐selective cation channel that plays a pivotal role in the peripheral nervous system as a transducer of painful heat signals. Alternative splicing gives rise to several TRPM3 variants. The functional consequences of these splice isoforms are poorly understood. Here, the pharmacological properties of TRPM3 variants arising from alternative splicing in the pore‐forming region were compared.
